June 13: Day 1 - Tour of Moscow

While the nine hour plane ride was rough on most of the group, we all bounced back and enjoyed our first full day. We started out with a bus ride from the airport into the city, where our tour guide, Julia, gave us a lot of backstory on the history of Moscow. Our first stop was at St. Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin.

From there, we walked to the Gum shopping center. Gum, which is actually pronounced goom, featured many different stores that we all toured. We made sure to stop for the New Balance store, in honor of WNE alumnus and current New Balance employee Nick Starr. We stopped for lunch at a food court as well, where we got our first taste of Russian cuisine.

From there we toured more of the surrounding area under the guidance of Julia, and were able to see some very historic places throughout Moscow. At about 2:00, we headed to the hotel, checked in, and relaxed for a bit before dinner. Our dinner was at a restaurant across the street from the hotel, where we enjoyed another meal and talked about our first impressions of the country. From there, we walked around the city for a bit, and then returned to the hotel.

On Thursday, we will be going to the opening match for the World Cup!
